I’m not a golfer, but I do get excited each year when The Honda Classic comes to town! If you’re not from around South Florida, or you’re new to the area, let me tell you about this exciting annual event.
The Honda Classic is a professional golf tournament played at PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The tournament is part of the PGA Tour and is typically held in late February or early March. This year, the tournament tees off on Thursday, February 23 and ends with the final round and awards ceremony on Sunday, February 26. There are many other events surrounding the actual tournament, so make sure to check those out on the Honda Classic website.
The tournament was first held in 1972 and has been played at the PGA National Resort & Spa (Champion Course) since 2007. PGA National has hosted the tournament longer than any other site and is convenient to the many professional golfers who have homes in Palm Beach Gardens and surrounding area.
A Little Bit About PGA National:
PGA National offers a variety of residential options for those looking to live in a golf community. These include single-family homes, townhomes, and condominiums, many of which are situated along the fairways or lakes of the golf courses. The area has a vibrant social scene, with a variety of clubs and organizations for residents to get involved in and offers a range of amenities and services to residents including access to the golf courses, fitness centers, dining facilities, and more.
The luxurious PGA National Resort and Spa is in the heart of PGA National and boasts six golf courses, the Champion course being home of the Honda Classic, and a state-of the-art sports and racquet club with 19 tennis courts, a 40,000 square-foot spa, a huge outdoor mineral pool, and kids splash pool with fun fountains.
I could write an entire blog post about PGA National, but let’s get back to the Honda Classic.
The Honda Classic is known for its challenging course and has a reputation for attracting some of the top golfers (and celebrities!) in the world. The tournament is widely considered one of the premier events on the PGA Tour and draws large crowds of golf fans to Palm Beach Gardens each year. Not good for local traffic but great for the local economy!
Past champions of the Honda Classic include many of the sport’s all-time greats, such as Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Nick Price, and Tiger Woods. The tournament is also well known for its charitable contributions, with a portion of the proceeds each year being donated to local organizations and charities.
In addition to the main tournament, the Honda Classic also includes a variety of events and activities for fans, such as the Honda Classic Cares Pro-Am, the Honda Classic Concert Series, and the Honda Classic Golf Expo. These events provide an opportunity for fans to interact with golfers, enjoy live music and entertainment, and participate in various golf-related activities.
Overall, the Honda Classic is a fun and highly anticipated event on the PGA Tour and in the local area and offers golf fans and residents an opportunity to see some of the sport’s top players in action while also supporting local charitable causes.
