Small-business owners (like me!) love what they do, and they play an important role in supporting their local communities. From providing a hometown feel for localities to working hard to know their neighbors, community and customers, small businesses do a lot to help others who live nearby in many different ways.
One of the local businesses I’d like to highlight is My Community Pharmacy, located in Wellington, Florida. Since 2008, My Community Pharmacy has been providing healthcare services to residents of Wellington and surrounding areas. What they thought would be a small family pharmacy has grown into 5,000 active patients and a staple business in Wellington.
My Community Pharmacy recently won the Palm Beach Post’s “Best of Palm Beach County- 2022 Best Pharmacy” award!
About My Community Pharmacy
Owners Johnny and Meroe Meier started My Community Pharmacy after moving to Florida from Oklahoma. Not only were they looking for sunnier, greener pastures, but Johnny was enlisted in the Air Force and relocated to Patrick Air Force Base in Brevard County, and Meroe worked as a pharmacist at a local CVS in Oklahoma. She was unhappy with the chain pharmacy culture and how patients were treated, and Florida provided a new opportunity for them to open their own pharmacy.
Johnny and Meroe make a great team. Johnny brings his expertise in business operations to the table and Meroe brings her knowledge of pharmaceuticals. Together, they’ve built a sustainable business, doing what they love, and providing their customers true, individualized care.
Despite chain pharmacies being on every street corner and in every shopping center, they may not be the best choice for someone’s pharmacy needs, and you certainly won’t get the care that is provided by a smaller “mom and pop” pharmacy.
My Community Pharmacy is one of two, locally owned pharmacies, with a 3,000 square foot store located in the Wellington Green Commons near Whole Foods. They provide an array of services including, medication therapy management, children’s and veterinary medicine, compounding, medication synchronization, over-the-counter drug store supplies, and much more.
In addition to their busy days keeping people (and animals) healthy, they’re active in many area business groups, fundraise for local charities and schools, and even support local businesses by shopping and dining with neighbors.
“Customer service is our number one priority at My Community Pharmacy. We get to know all our customers by name, build one-on-one relationships with them, and we even get to know their families, children, and pets,” says Johnny Meier, owner.
The Benefits of Using a Local Pharmacy
Using a local pharmacy can be beneficial in so many ways. One of the key advantages is that you can build a relationship with the pharmacist and staff, who can provide personalized advice and guidance with your healthcare journey. Additionally, local pharmacists are more likely to know your medical history, which can help them better advise on what medications are best suited for your needs, and those that are not. Furthermore, local pharmacies may offer convenient services such as free delivery (which they do!), competitive pricing, and shorter wait times.
Many chain pharmacies are understaffed, and workers are overwhelmed, creating long lines and long wait times for phone calls and prescription pickups. This is especially true during times of vaccines for flu and viruses and in high traffic times of each day.
The team at My Community Pharmacy makes sure that customers are taken care of right away, treated as part of their family, and leave with a smile on their face.
When it comes to showing your support for small businesses, it’s important to do so, and not just to help them gain revenue and stay operational. Everything from the local clothing boutique to the corner cupcake bakery relies on the support of loyal customers to keep its doors open, and when you spend money at a small business, you’ll gain plenty of wonderful benefits as well.
